Built by Borwicks of Windermere in the 1920s, “Merrie Maid” is once more in excellent condition following an extensive refurbishment by the conservators at the Windermere Jetty Museum. As part of the work carried out, the motor was replaced with an electric pod drive system by Krautler providing almost silent progress through the water. “Merrie Maid” is ready for a new owner either as a private vessel or with potential for use commercially.

Construction:
The hull is constructed to a traditional timber system with carvel laid Brazilian Mahogany planking over steamed Oak, close set timbers set at approximately 6 inch centres. Extended length engine bearers have been retained for longitudinal stiffness. Extra timbers have been added in the area of the pod drive and battery pack to provide lateral stiffness. The fixings are a mix of Copper clenched nails and rovings to steamed ribs.
The stem is of English Oak and the apron, stem knee, keel, sternpost, aft knee and shaft log are painted and thought o be Oak. The cockpits, cabin seats, battery box and fitted out items are of Brazilian Oak.
The sole boards and deck beams are soft wood and thought to be Douglas Fir.
Propulsion system:
Powered by a Krautler 48 Volt, 8kwh underwater flange mounted pod motor. A Bank of 5 Aentron 2.2kwh Lithium batteries are fitted in a watertight box amidships. The charger, control system, battery management system and isolator are mounted in the cabin lockers.
