Construction

Built by Eric Birch Yachts of Essex from 1971, this Frank Butler designed craft was already a huge hit in the states as the Catalina 27. Built primarily as a cost effective and affordable offshore vessel she allowed faster and longer passages to be made with a bit of performance to boot.

GRP hull with seperate deck and cockpit mouldings, this bilge keel version is surprisingly efficient and if cruising is what you are after it would be hard to differentiate between this and the fin keel version. Deep self draining cockpit that offers shelter from the elements and ideal for families with small children and can accommodate 6 adults with ease and is comfortable due to the angled coamings that double as back rests. Stowage is brilliant with a deep port side locker, rope locker to starboard and a lazerette for fuel, gas and numerous boaty bits.

Professionally antifouled and polished 2017.

Engine & Mechanics

Lazy Bear's auxiliary power is provided by an inboard sail drive Beta Marine 16HP diesel engine with 2 blade fixed propeller. Two cylinder engine offering economy and reliability. Engine serviced annually.
Twin battery installation with isolators. These provide engine start and domestic power. Kept charged via the engine alternator.

Rigging & Spars

Deck stepped aluminium mast with mast head rig, swept back spreaders and aluminium boom. Stainless steel standing rigging, new August 2018, mounted well inboard allowing good windward ability.

Slab reefing Mainsail with lazy jacks and furling foresail which had a new UV strip in 2018. All sails are said to be in good condition.

Accommodation

The interior is both spacious and welcoming. This is due to the massive sliding coachroof hatch which acts like a sunroof allowing lots of light and ventilation into the yacht. Cleverly designed with every inch of space used effectively, there is ample sleeping arrangements for 5 adults with double berth in fore peak, double berth at the convertable dinette and a quarter berth aft on the port side.

Stowage is plentiful, with small cupboards throughout, a hanging locker and storage beneath bunks and seats.

Galley to port with gas fuelled 2-burner hob and grill, fresh water, stainless steel sink and a cool box unit for perishables. Between the main cabin and the forepeak bulkheads is the heads with sea toilet (in need of a service) to port and a hanging locker to starboard.
