Construction

GRP constructed, internal stiffening provided by substantial balsa and foam filled internal frames forming an extremely strong hull. Bilge keel studs have been reinforced. The hull was epoxy treated in 2015 with Gelshield.

Large self-draining cockpit provides plenty of safe room for crew, with large stowage aft of the tiller.

Wide side decks, stainless steel guard rails all round and teak grab rails on the coach roof, allows for safe, easy movement on deck.

White hull with red water line, with bilge keels and tiller steering.

Accommodation and layout

The internal layout is traditional in design, with a vee berth forward cabin with infill, making a comfortable double, and plenty of stowage under and narrow lipped shelving above. The heads are located between the bulkheads separating the fore cabin from the saloon.

A spacious saloon with seating to port with storage space under and large cool box with enclosed shelving/cupboards above. The owner has made 2 extra shorter legs for the dining table which allows for the table to be lowered to make a further double berth. Galley to starboard with2 burner gas hob and grill. A further small sofa aft of the galley gives plenty of comfortable seating.

The quarter berths are aft of the seating and galley area. the head linings throughout are in good condition and improvements have been made.

From the companion way up to the cockpit with engine under, the owner has constructed a swinging mount for the instruments which allows viewing internally or from the helm.

Engine & Mechanics

Rainbow's auxiliary power is by a Volvo Penta MDIIC 23hp twin cylinder inboard diesel engine, with fixed three bladed prop. 2 x 12v batteries charged from engine alternator.

Access to the engine is good both from internally and via the cockpit.

Sails and Rigging

Bermudan sloop with alloy spars. Twin forestay arrangement with hank on foresails. Stainless steel standing rigging and Terylene running rigging. Boom roller reefing mainsail.

All sails are said to be used but in serviceable condition.
